Indirect mobilization techniques
Lewit K.

Rehabilitační klinika 2. lékařské fakulty Karlovy univerzity v Motole, přednosta doc. PaeDr. P. Kolář

Summary:

Indirect mobilisation techniques make use of relief positions producing relaxation of dysfunctional movement segments, thus achieving normalisation of the range of movement and elimination of myofascial trigger points. The “functional method“ achieves this by first giving support to the patient in the relief position: after this he remains relaxed while the therapist returns gradually to positions which were previously painful. Making use of „counterstrain“ the relief position is exaggerated until maximum range is reached and in this position the patient renains for 90 secunds before slowly returning to neutral.

Key words: indirect technique, functional technique, counterstrain, relaxation
