Importance of Posture in Kinesitherapeutic Concepts Focused on Disorders of the Motor Apparatus
Pavlů D.

Summary:

In the submitted paper the author draws attention to some in this country little known kinesitherapeutic concepts focused on elimination of poor posture as an important prerequisite for alleviating complaints in some orthopaedic, gynaecological, pneumological and neurological disorders. A basic approach of this type is that of the French kinesitherapist F. Mézičres – „Method Méziééres“ elaborated further into the concept of „Global postural re-education“ (Ph. Souchard), „Postural reconstruction“ (M. Nissand), „GDS“ (G. Denys-Struyf), the „Method of muscle chains“ (L. Busquet). The basic therapeutic element of these methods is individually selected stretching of muscle chains with active – sometimes painful – perseverance in the stretched position. This is combined with other measures. The author also draws attention to the American alternate concept of „Postural integration“ (J. Painter), which in addition to stretching of muscles comprises also massage, mobilization of breathing and psychological and emotional factors.
