Summary:
The author describes the acute intoxication with ethylalcohol focusing especially on the treatment possibilities in this intoxication.
Induced vomiting and stomach lavage are recommended regarding to fast resorption of ethylalcohol within only 90 minutes
after digestion. Forced diuresis is not efficient. Cardiovascular and respiratory support is of the main significance. Application of
electrolytes and hydration depends on the actual state of the organism. Glucose is the necessary part of treatment. The bodily temperature
has to be adjusted to the normal values, it is difficult to manage restlessness with medicaments, application of sedatives is
postponed as long as possible. Hemodialysis (or peritoneal dialysis in children) is the only extracorporal detoxification method
which is recommended. Both methods are used only in exceptional serious intoxications.
