Summary: Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the relation between myocardial infarction and serologically documented infection with Helicobacter pylori.
Method. The study group consisted of 193 patients. Acute myocardial infarction was documented in 45
patients according to the diagnostic criteria by the American Society of Cardiology. Infection with Helicobac-
ter pylori was assessed by ELISA assay. The likelihood of seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in
patients after myocardial infarction was assessed by calculating the odds ratio.
Results. There was no association between Helicobacter pylori infection and myocardial infarction (odds ratio
1.4, 95% confidence interval 0.54–2.5, p = 0.50).
Conclusion. Our data do not prove association between Helicobacter pylori infection and coronary artery
disease.
