Summary:
In the paper, the influence of asbestos on developing lung cancer is evaluated in a sample of persons who passed preventive medical
examinations in the Šumperk district. The relationship was analyzed in the case control study in 998 cases of lung cancer and
37 772 controls. The odds ratio was 2.65 (95% confidence interval, 1.47–4.67), thus statistically significant. After adjusting for smoking,
the odds ratio was 1.53 in smokers (95% confidence interval, 0.78–2,93), statistically insignificant and 6.22 in nonsmokers
(95% confidence interval, 1.55–20.66), statistically significant. These findings proved risk of asbestos on developing of lung
cancer and that is without influence of smoking.
