Summary:
The syndrome of multiple chemical sensitivity is characterized by symptoms affecting various organ systems (central nervous
system, respiratory pathways, digestive system, urinary system, locomotor system, skin) which develop in case of a lower concen-
tration of substances in the environment than is the concentration which according to valid instructions can cause undesirable
effects and lead to deterioration of the health status. The causal agent are chemical substances of different structure and mecha-
nism of action. In the etiopathogenesis psychogenic, immunological, respiratory, olfactory limbic mechanisms may be involved. In
treatment cognitive and behavioural interventions and relaxation techniques are most successful, possibly in combination with
antidepressants or anxiolytics.
