Within the framework of studies of pharmacotherapy of the diseases of the muscular and skeletal system, the paper aimed to analyze the pharmacotherapy of osteoporosis. The significance of the problems in the field of research of epidemiology of osteoporosis requires the use of all available methods. With regard to the fact that the epidemiological situation in osteoporosis i s also reflected in the consumption of drugs, the paper aimed to contribute to the solution of the problem by means of an analysis of the pharmacotherapy of osteoporosis. The results of the analysis have confirmed the relationship between the prevalence of the disease of osteoporosis and drug consumption. The paper demonstrated an increase in the total consumption of drugs prescribed for osteoporosis in 1998 and 1999 in comparison with 1997 as well as an increase in the consumption according to the age and sex. A statistically significant difference was recorded in the consumption of drugs prescribed for osteoporosis with regard to women. The analysis showed changes in the assortment of prescribed drugs as well as changes in the management of the therapy of osteoporosis.
