The author discusses the problem of damage of the eye by noxious substances in the work environment. In the introduction he pays attention to chemical substances incl. heavy metals. Most frequently chemical burns by alkalis or acids are encountered. First aid during occupational injures is discussed. The subsequent part of the paper deals with the action of electromagnetic and ionizing radiation on the eye, their causes and possible health protection.
