Summary:

Columnar cell carcinoma of the thyroid gland is a very rare malignant tumour with characteristic histological features. The tumour is characterized by typical aggresive behaviour and unfavourable prognosis. We describe a case of this carcinoma in 69-year-old man. We present clinical and histological features of this tumour. In addition, we present features of this tumour in fine-needle aspirates, which were described only in a few cases in literature so far.

Key words: carcinoma of the thyroid gland - columnar cells - papillary carcinoma - fine-needle aspiration
