Pregnancy and Primary Hyperparathyreoidism

Summary:

       Objective: Evaluation of the infl uence of hypercalcemia and primary hyperparathyreoidism on the course of pregnancy and recommendations for the best management of this condition. Design: Case report. Setting: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Regional Hospital, Pardubice. Subjects and methods: The author analyses her experience with the course of pregnancy in a patient with primary hyperparathyreoidism diagnosed at the beginning of the third trimester. The patient was successfully operated on, the solitary adenoma of parathyroid gland was removed and she delivered vaginally a healthy foetus in term. Conclusion: The example draws attention to the hypercalcemia during pregnancy that may cause nausea and vomiting. This condition can be misdiagnosed for hyperemesis gravidarum and underlying disease can be missed.
