Summary:
Folliculitis keloidalis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the hair follicles. It is localized
most frequently in the hair and on the neck. It is found mostly in men of the black race at the age of
14-25 years. The afflicted patients have frequently a so-called seborrhoic constitution with acne
vulgaris or hidradenitis suppurative.
A 34-year-old negro from Liberia developed this disease at the age of 26 years. It was localized in
the hair and manifested by the formation of pustules, abscesses, keloids and ciccatrical alopecia.
Cultivation revealed Staphylococcus aureus. The keloid tumor was removed surgically.
