Summary:

We are reporting a case of the acute intoxication by sodium fluosilicate (Na2SiF6) in a 27-year old patient after using 3–4 teaspoons of the white powder of the Na2SiF6. One and half hour after consuming the powder the patient was admitted to our department, where the organ dysfunction occurred within 6 hours and resulted in death. The dose of poison used by the patient corresponds with the data referred in literature as the lethal dose (Na2SiF6 over 5–10 grams or 70–140 miligrams/kg of body weight orally).

Key words: acute fluorine intoxication – sodium fluosilicate (Na2SiF6) – hydrofluoric acid (HF) – calcium – organ dysfunction
