Summary:

A 7-year-old boy, a 74-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man had each an annular focus with a not verv intensive inflammatory component on the upper half of the body. The fotí were subjectively asymptomatic, grew slowly, had a discrete follicular hyperkeratosis, usually on the more active borderline. Bioptic examination in all patients revealed mucin deposits in the epithelial wall of the hair follicle. Surrounding the follicle were not verv dense lymphocyte infiltrates with a small amount of eosinophils immigrating finto the wall of the hair follicle. In the woman part of the lymphocytes displayed a certain pleomorphism of the nucleus and partial epidermotropism. In the boy and the woman the disease receded after application of local corticoids, in the man fit receded spontaneously. All three cases were consistent with the idiopathic subacute form of follicular mucinosis. Some microscopic features in the female patient caused us to take a careful approach as regards the hnal diagnostic evaluation as fit was not possible to rnle out future development of mycosis fungoides.

Key words: mucinosis follicularis - idiopathic subacute form - clinical picture - histopathological picture - therapy
