Summary:

Objective: Evaluate the effectiveness of combined treatment with pantoprazole, clarithromycin and metronidazole in the eradication of Helicobacter (H.) pylori infection under local conditions (possibility of different resistance to metronidazole, clarithromycin etc.) Patients and methods: Treatment was administered to 100 patients with confirmed H.pylori infec- tion (rapid urease test, histological examination). The group comprised 43 patients with peptic ulcer disease and 57 patients with non-ulcer (functional) dyspepsia. Treatment lasted 7 days and comprised pantoprazole 2×40 mg (Controloc tbl., Byk Gulden), clarithromycin 2 × 250 mg (Klacid tbl., Abbott) and metranidazole 2 × 500 mg/d (Entizol tbl. a 250 mg, POLFA). Results: H. pylori was eradicated in 87 % of the patients. The eradication activity was similar in patients with peptic ulceration and in patients with non-ulcer dyspesia. Side-effects were mild but relatively frequent (37 %). They did not affect compliance and did not cause discontinuation of treatment. Most frequently (15 %) mild diarrhoea was involved. Conclusions: The high effectiveness of combined treatment with pantaprazol in H. pylori infection in the Czech Republic was confirmed, similar to results obtained in western Europe.
