Summary:
In the course of 10 years mastocytic skin diseases were diagnosed in 48 children (25 boys and 23 girls): solitary
mastocytoma 5x, urticaria pigmentosa with dermal dissemination of morphae of different extent 42x, diffuse
erythrodermic mastocytosis 1x. 36 children had skin manifestations already during the first six months after birth
(75 %), three children had manifestations already at birth. In the patients the disease was manifested at the age
of two years and only two patients had the onset of symptoms after the age of six. Histological verification was
made in 36 patients. It is remarkable that 59 % of the patients were referred to the department from other
departments with an incorrect or no diagnosis, only 31 % of the children had a correct primary diagnosis. The
authors discuss the conditions of a correct diagnosis (incl. histological and laboratory diagnosis) and contemporary
therapeutic possibilities of different types of dermal mastocytoses.
