The Unusual Case of Skin Disease Caused by Mycobacterium marinum

Summary:

       The case of Mycobacterium marinum infection on the left arm in a 39-year-old man with polyvalent allergy in personal history is reported. He presented with skin lesions showing histopatological picture compatible with the clinical diagnosis of mycobacteriosis and the causative organism - Mycobacterium marinum - was confirmed by cultivation. The patient since childhood has been an aquarist. The combined therapy with rifampicin, ethambutol and ciprofloxacin for 12 months resulted in small, cosmetically acceptable scars. Two years after mycobacteriosis treatment the dermorespiratory syndrome occurred.
