A manuál for teachers on the prevention of smoking at primary schools has been produced within the fra mework of the "Smoke-free Class Competition" antismoking project, which is run in the second grade of primary school. The "Smoke-free Class Competition" programme is a school-based smoking prevention programme that is organised in many countries in cooperation with the European Network on Young People and Tobacco (ENYPAT). The idea for the "Smoke-free Class Competition" arose in Finland, where it has been carried out annually since 1989/1990. The creation and introduction of these methods has enabled more vigorous primary prevention and early therapy for incipient smokers.
