Looking for the Best System of Postgraduate Training in Clinical Biochemistry
Palička V. 1 , Kocna P. 2

Summary:

The history of clinical biochemistry in the Czech Republic is a history of searching for the identity of the discipline. The success of the discipline needs a clear and definite position of clinical biochemistry in health care, with a scientific background and clinical application. To this end the system of postgraduate education has to be changed. It must clearly define the required knowledge and abilities without any doubts. In the medical category the priority depends on the consensus of the orientation of physicians-clinical biochemists (more clinical practice or more laboratory medicine) and according that in the educational system. Scientists enter our discipline from very different pregraduate educational systems and their post-graduate education includes only little part of clinical education. The definite goal for all categories is to adjust the educational system to the system in the EU to open the possibility for joining the European Register of Clinical Chemists.

Key words: clinical biochemistry, postgraduate training.
