Summary:
The toxicological information centre (TIS) provides information on acute intoxications 24 hours a day, in
particular to doctors, to laymen mainly on first aid provisions. Most frequent are intoxications in young children,
an important role can be played by suitable prevention, a very significant part is that of the mother and close
surroundings but also the collaboration with the paediatrician.
If an intoxication occurs it is possible to obtain immediately information at TIS on the most suitable procedure
in the given case. When addressing TIS most detailed data on the patient will be helpful. In some intoxications the
generally applied procedure - provoking vomiting, gastric lavage, administration of activated charcoal and salines
laxatives is not necessarily the best.
