Summary:

The article represents the overview of therapy characteristics in the case of gastroexophageal reflux disease (GERD) in the relationship to pharmacoeconomics. The proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are generally accepted as the most effective therapy of GERD. PPI test and on demand therapy confirmed their clinical and economic effectivity in the diagnostics and therapy of GERD. The most effectivity was documented by esomeprazol 40 mg/d in initial therapy and by esomeprazol 20 mg by maintenance on demand therapy.

Key words: pharmacoeconomics - gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) - erosive esophagitis - PPI test (omeprazole test) — on demand therapy
