Summary:
In a group of 8 253 patients with different neurological diseases, prealbumin concentrations in CNS and serum
were measured. As a method of assessment, laser nephelometry has been used. The results have been correlated
with concentrations of the other CSF proteins and with cytological and biochemical findings. Descriptives
statistics of the control group enabled to set normal reference ranges of Prealbumin CSF concentrations, its
quotient and index.
In CSF, prealbumin behaves itself as a typical inflammatory marker and its analysis enables routine diagnostics
of inflammatory diseases of CNS, especially of non-purulent ones.
Key words:
prealbumin, CSF proteins, CNS.
