Summary: The publication is the introduction to several papers which are based on the investigation of the
life and activities of lipophil yeast cells of the Malassezia genus. The authors detected and explained
various functions and phenomena hitherto unknown and not published. In the present work they
provide evidence that lipophil yeast cells on the epidermal surface in pityriasis versicolor change
their morphological shapes in a certain rotation, and submit two hitherto unknown forms: the form
of aggregation of black fibres and the form of very small blastospores.
