The authors review main principles in the use of enteric nutrition in seriously ill patients with partly or completely functional alimentary tract, where a commonmode of nutrition is not possible or sufficient. The survey outlines presently used preparations for enteric nutrition at the Faculty Hospital in Prague-Motol with a brief characterization. The paper summarizes the ways and complications in the administration of enteric nutrition. Present knowledge of nutritional pharmacology is described inasmuch it is still amatter of research and purposely used in the administration of enteric clinical nutrition in the therapy of basic disease.
