Summary:

Although primary malignant neoplasms in children and adolescents occur rarely, the detection of metastatic lung nodes of malignant tumors of soft or bone tissues belongs to routine observations. The study, dealing with their observation in the group of 26 children and 26 adolescents up to 19 years of age is based on 83 examinations performed by the technique of spiral CT with low-dose ionizing radiation (LDSCT). For the regulation of the amount of X-ray radiation the authors decreased the value of heating current on anode of the X-ray tube to 63mA. The decrease of the dose did not influence quality of the examination as well as image quality of the findings including the detection of nodes on the 3mm diameter. This procedure appears to be suitable for the examination of children and adolescents and may be recommended as a standard procedure.
