Summary:
A 16-year-old boy was treated on account of arthritis and osteitis located on the anterior thoracic wall, left
ankle and spine. He developed these manifestations five weeks after marked deterioration of acne. The local skin
lesions and manifestations on the locomotor system improved after treatment. However sterno-costo-clavicular
hyperostosis persists. The SAPHO syndrome was defined in 1987 as a unit including skin manifestations (severe
forms of acne, or pustulosis palmoplantaris) concurrently with an osteoarticular symptomatology - non-infectious
osteitis, hyperostosis and arthritis.
