Summary: The authors describe the case of a two-old toddler with a combined viral and bacterial respiratory infection associated with a spontaneous complete collapse of entire lower left pulmonary lobe. Based on their own experience they selected a non-surgical solution of this complication. They introduced gradually into the affected area two thin inercostal thoracic drains and relieved the pleural adhesion by a single intrapleural instillation of streptokinase (IPSK). After 12 days of active thoracic suction complete and permanent inflation of the collapsed pulmonary lobe was achieved.
