Summary:

The interference of assessment of 5-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid in urine by the HPLC assay with electrochemical detection can be caused by the aminosalicylate treatment. The separation of the interfering peak was achieved by a change of the pH of the mobile buffer phase from the value 2.6 to 3.2.

Key words: 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, HPLC, aminosalicylates, interference.
