Summary:
The author presents the results of a clinical investigation of treatment of onychomycoses by the antimycotic Itraconazole implemented in the Czech Republic in the hrst half of 2000. The investigation comprised 1874 patients, mean age 50.1 years. The patients suffered from a high average affections of nails (6.4 nails) and at the same time a high percentage affection of the nail plate (74.2 %). Cultivation revealed as the most frequent causal agent of onychomycoses of the feet dermatophytes (66 %) and yeast (19.2 %). 668 (35.6 %) patients in the investigated group used further medication. Only 20 patients of the total number had contraindications for the administration of Itraconazole because of potential drng interaction. The incidence of undesirable effects after the hrst and second pulse was 3.7 % and 2.7 % resp. Minor undesirable effects esere involved. 2.1 % patients discontinued therapy because of undesirable effects of treatment.
