Summary:

The occurrence of heterotopic gastric mucosa in the proximal esophagus is known from the beginning of 19th century and has been considered to be a development anomaly, asymptomatic in most cases, treatment of which is not necessary but in many cases this finding may be followed by important clinical consequences. The presence of this finding in 10 % patients followed up in clinical studies gives evidence that during common upper GI endoscopy this diagnosis is insufficient. In this paper 3 case reports and bibliography overview is carried out.

Key words: heterotopy of gastric mucosa – esophagus
