Using Cartilage Grafts by Retraktion Pockets by Children

Summary:

       From 190 patients they undergone cartilage tympanoplasties between 1998 – 2003 on ENT Dpt. Hospital in Frydek Mistek and Silesian Hospital in Opava, by 50 children perichondrium carilage island technique (PCI) were performed in indication retraction pockets – fixed and uncontrollable pockets (stage III – Charachon classification). Tragal cartilage are used in this cases. The children were between 7 -16 year old (mean 12,6 years). Postoperative results 2 years after consisted in normal anatomy = closed middle ear cavity and normal eardrum without retraction in 41 cases. 1x occur marginal perforation in anterior part of eardrum, 3x controllable retraction pocket. 4 surgical revizions were performed for 2 cholesteatomas with tympanic retractions and 2 recurent uncontrollable retraction pockets. The hearing results were good: in 29 cases were air-bone gap less 10 dB, in 16 cases less 30dB. Social hearing were measure by 45 patients.
