Summary:

In 2001 in 7 departments of the transfusion service an inquiry was made addressed to non-remunerated blood donors pertaining to some problems of donation of blood and blood components. 561 respondents responded to 5 questions. More than 78 % of the respondents would not change their attitude to blood donation if blood or plasma were sold abroad. A more friendly response was obtained from women and from respondents with secondary education. Almost 70 % of the donors of blood and blood components would not object to attendance in the afternoon or evening, in another 14% this would reduce their attendance. It would be more acceptable for men and donors with secondary education.More than 70 % donors do not consider the difference in attitude to non-remunerated donation of whole blood and plasma important and 67 % of the donors do not differentiate between the type of remuneration (medals or plaques). Almost 73 % of the respondents do not perceive differences between blood collection by apheresis and other blood collection as regards their remuneration.

Key words: blood donation, evaluation of donors, willingness of donors, time of blood collection
