Transrectal Stent in Palliative Treatment of Cancer of the Rectum and Benign Stenoses of the Rectum and Rectosigmoid
Horák L., Volenec K., Zavoral M., Denemark L., Antoš F., Faltýn J.

Summary:

In 32 subjects with advanced rectal cancer implantation of a transrectal stent was performed. We were successful in 29 cases. In two cases due to dislocation, the stent had to be removed. We had one perforation of the sigmoid colon. We were successful with stenting of non-malignant stenosis of the rectum in eleven cases. Implantation of a transrectal stent is considered a safe out patient procedure, which improves the quality of life in patients with advanced rectal cancer.

Key words: colorectal carcinoma – palliative treatment – self-expanding stent
