Summary:

Syphilis is a chronic systemic infection, characterized by episodes of active disease interrupted by periods of latency. Soon after infection, Treponema pallidum can invade the CNS. It is manifested as symptomatic or asymptomatic neurosyphilis in the second or in the third stage of the disease. The diagnosis of asymptomatic neurosyphilis is difficult. An objective investigation of CSF makes the diagnosis easier. Our goal is to introduce to the medical community possibilities of current liquorology in laboratory diagnostics of neurosyphilis and to outline its possible future development.

Key words: CSF, neurosyphilis, reactive antibodies, antitreponemal antibodies, NeLu score.
