Summary: Salicylates are commonly applied in therapy. In dermatology salicylic acid is the most commonly
applied topically, and acetylsalicylic acid orally. These therapeutics can be the cause of acute or
chronic intoxication called salicylism. The diagnostics of salicylism is a problem. It may be manifested
by dehydration, hyperventilation or neuropsychiatric symptoms. A complex view on the problem
of salicylism in dermatology is presented.
