The Use of Fibrin Glue in the Endoscopic Treatment of Vesicovaginal Fistulae
Wolski Z.

Department of Urology, The Ludwik Rydygier Medical University in Bydgoszcz, Poland

Summary:

The treatment of uesicouaginal fistulae (WF) including transuaginal and transabdominal surgical repairs has been extensiuely documented. Small f stulae can be closed by long-term drainage of the bladder andlor by coagulation, scarification of fistulae canals. I should like to present a new method for the endoscopic treatment of WF using fibrin glue. Material and method: Beriplast a modern fibrin glue is the materiál which I haue used for the endoscopic treatment of two patients with small WF. In the tase of the fcrst patient we injected the two glue components via two separate 3 F catheters inserted cystoscopically finto the WF canal. In the other patient the glue components esere injected via one 5 F catheter with an opening half way along fit. The opening was positioned in the WFcanal during cystoscopy. Immediately after injection the catheter was Split down the middle and withdrawn by pulling out the two ends (urethral and uaginal). After these procedures a bladder catheter was left in for respectiuely 7 and 21 days. Follow up was 12 and 20 months respectiuely. A new method for the endoscopic treatment of WF has been presented. This treatment may be considered for patients with small size WF.
