An account on the development of the Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) in the Czech Republic during 1990 – 1999 based on interpretation of statistical data is presented. Great attention is given to trends and their interpretation. Characteristics of the BTS in 1990 and 1999 respectively are presented in separate chapters. Unambiguous progress in practically all parameters during the last decade is documented in many Graphs and Tables. Changes in the donor population are interpreted in connection with positive trends of detection of infections important for recipients.
