Summary:

The aim of our presentation is to point out the diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties in the treatment of Merkel cell carcinoma of the slon. Merkel carcinoma is a rare malignant disease, which occurs mainly in elderly patients. Optimal treatment strategy is not clearly established. Surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are usually used. Radiotherapy plays the important role in local control of the disease. Radiotherapy is employed after surgical resection or in cases of locally advanced disease and in metastatic disease as palliative care.
