Summary:
The author in this review emphasizes the complex approath to the management of chronic wounds. Chronic wounds include: leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, ulcerating malignancies, ulcers after necrosis debride-ment in the 3rd grade burns, surgical wounds healing "per secundam". Chronic wounds are associated with a long-term healing, high cost and a decrease of the quality of life. Thaťs why a rational attitude and a search for the most effective therapy of chronic wound together with a complex approach to the patient is necessary.
Healing of chronic wounds runs in three phases which leads to new granulation tissue formation and its reepithelization. Healing process is influenced by various local and systemic factors which should be taken in consideration for the choice of management stratégy.
The complex care represents the main principle of the management of various types of wounds, especi-ally chronic one, and encompasses topical, systemic, physical and, possibly, surgical therapy, as well as preventivě measures and patient education.
