Preparation LI 160 (Jarsin©) is a standardized extract of Hypericum perforatum L. Its antidepressant effect was proved in controlled studies with placebo and standard antidepressants in mild and medium severe depressions. In larger doses its effect was tested also in severe depressions. In larger doses its effect was tested also in severe depressions. It has a very favourable profile as regards undesirable effects and is not cardiotoxic. Due to induction of enzyme P450, interactions with drugs which are brokem down by this system are possible. Most probably the mechanism of the antidepressant action of LI 160 is mediated by a combined block of serotonin, noradrenaline and dopamine uptake.
