Esophageal Diverticula and theirs Management

Summary:

       The authors try to clarify and summarise the basic principles of different types of management of esophageal diverticula on the basis of long term experience with that problem. The most commom is diverticulum of Zenker to which authors are mostly concerned in that article. During follow-up period ( January 1997 to December 2001) 42 patients suffering from diverticulum of oesophagus were managed and operated on. This group consists of 33 patients with diverticulum of Zenker,7 pts. of pifrenal diverticulum and 2 of diverticulum of middle portion of oesophagus. Suture dehiscence was present on 14.3%, one case of operation mortality (2.4%) and small complications in 9.5% appeared after surgery. During surgery of diverticulum of Zenker the myotomy was not done as a standard operation technique. The average time of follow-up after surgery was l4.7 months.
