Summary:
In a group of 27 patients where the operation of abdominal aorta aneurysm was planned the level of total
homocysteine in plasma was performed together with critical vitamins of group B (cobalamin and folate).
Significant increase of total homocysteine-hyperhomocysteinemia was detected (17.5 ± 5.3 µmol/l) compared to
control group of 30 healthy patients without vascular damage (8.9 ± 3.6 µmol/l), P<0.001. The significant increase
of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and Lp(a) lipoprotein together with insignificant decrease of folate and
cobalamin was also observed. In acute operations of abdominal aorta aneurysms the systematic investigation of
total homocysteine has not yet been performed.
Key words:
level of total homocysteine, critical vitamins, LDL-cholesterol, Lp(a) lipoproteine, folate, cobalamin,
