Magnifying Chromocolonoscopy – Beginner’s Diagnostic Accuracy

Summary:

       Magnifying chromocolonoscopy is an endoscopic method using optical or combined optical and electronical zoom to more detailed examination of colorectal mucosa in up to 80-150 times magnification. To further improve contrast different dyes including indigocarmin, methylen blue and cresyl violet are also used. The aim of the method is pit pattern diagnosis, which helps to differentiate in between hyperplastic lesions, adenoma and carcinoma. The aim of our study is to determine a diagnostic accuracy in the group of initial 191 examined lesions in 102 patients. The authors were able to reach sensitivity of 86% and specificity 28% for diagnosis of neoplasia.
