The principle ofdual effect and conscience
MATĚJEK J.

Summary:

The article in an attempt to fit the abstract principle of duál effect into the decision making of a physician. The sense of the principle of double effect is not to complicate decision making still more, but to help find the right solution. It is apparent that such a solution is not the result of cold calculations, but a result of the meeting of the conscience of the physician with that of the patient. Both the physician as well as the pati- ent, after all, just as all people seek reál good in situations in which they find themselves. Good that shall be adhering to life, to its full import.

Key words: medical ethics - duál effect principle - conscience - euthanasia - informed consent - incom- petent patient
