Summary:

This work is aimed to support the opinion of the general medical public that strong opioids are not medical foes, but very efficient and safe medicine if properly indicated and used in a suitable drug form. The work is structured slightly unconventional as well as the employment of strong opioids is yet unconventional for treatment of chronic non-tumorous and in some cases, I am afraid, even tumorous pain. In the first part of the work, a case report is provided for one patient of our outpatient department for chronic pain in the lower back who uses TTS fenthanyl and has gone back to work. In the next part, we ask several questions concerning the myths and superstitions adherent to strong opioids, and we answer those questions immediately. We continue with a case report of a young patient highly profiting by the employment of strong opioids that were successfully discontinued when the ground for use had ceased.

Key words: TTS fenthanyl - strong opioids - non-tumorous pain.
