Summary:

A sixteen-year-old boy was admitted to the oncological department on account of an abdominal wall tumour. Clinical appearance as well as ultrasound, CT and MRI findings, respectively, were non-specific. Early surgery was indicated because of tumour progression. Surgery revealed a large focus of slushy tissue. Only histological examination established the diagnosis of an actinomycotic abscess. The authors demonstrate difficulties with the establishment of the diagnosis of this rare disease.

Key words: actinomycosis, tumour, retroperitoneum, CT, MRI, differential diagnostics
