Mucinoses

Summary:

       Cutaneous mucinoses are heterogenous group of diseases characterized by the presence of abnormal amount of mucin in the skin. Mucin is physiologically produced by keratinocytes and fibroblasts in a small amount, pathologically it is present in various diseases. Cutaneous mucinoses are divided in a group of pr-mary diseases where the mucin deposits represent the major histopathological sign and secondary diseases where they represent only minor finding. Paper reviews the primary mucinoses considering their clinical, histopathological, differential diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic features.
