Summary: The objective of the multicentre study was to assemble up-to-date information on the nutrition of infants under 6 months to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives which are developed since the beginning of the nineties to promote breastfeeding in the Czech Republic. From the results of the investigation made by means of a special questionnaire in 1104 women at 9 selected neonatal departments ensues that at present 93.5% neonates are fully breastfed when leaving the maternity hospital. At the age of six months 23.1% infants are fully breastfed and another 29.9% are partly breastfed. Evaluated according to these indicators the position a s regards natural nutrition of Czech infants is best as compared with previous years.
