Summary:
Author presents an overview of ethiopathogenic factors, diagnostic and therapeutical possibilities of functional
gastrointestinal disorders. The key role in ethipathogenesis is now credited to the motility disorders, visceral
hypersensitivity, psychosocial factors and to neurohumoral agents. Diagnosis is still difficult because of the
polymorphic clinical signs. In praxis the disease is often diagnosed by excluding organic causes of complaints.
Therapy includes awide scale of remedies. The choice depends on the clinical symptomatology. Therapeutic approach
must be complex; beside the pharmacological treatment, an important place has psychotherapy and improvement of
the personal regime. In spite of the present progress, it is necessary to widen our knowledge on the ethiopathogesy
and thus to improve the diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities.
