Summary:
The authors present the case of a 4-month-old patient with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) treated by high frequency oscillation (HFOV) where only the use of a mixture of helium and oxygen made it possible to improve parameters of oxygenation and ventilation and to reduce subsequently the set parameters on the oscillator and thus to make possible recovery after bilateral pneumothorax and disconnection of the patient from artificial ventilation.
