The Life Quality Change in Obese Patients after Short-time Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Intervention
Slabá Š.

III. interní klinika 1. LF a VFN, Praha, přednosta prof. MUDr. Š. Svačina, DrSc.

Summary:

The aim of this pilot study was to prove the effectiveness of the short time group cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) from the point of view of the weight reduction and its impact on the change of the quality of life (exactly health-related quality of life, HRQOL) in a non-selected group of Czech obese women. Design: Monitoring of the change of weight and HRQOL before and after 3-month group CBT intervention. Patients: 132 women aged from 20 to 65 years (mean age 39.8), with Body mass index (BMI) before the intervention from 25.5 to 43.4 kg/m2 (mean 30.8 kg/m2). The intervention was a part of „Courses of losing weight STOB“ and the women included in the study have not been treated with any other therapy at the same time. Unfortunately, at the period of monitoring, no men attended the courses, so the data are valid only for women’s population. Measuring: The questionnaire „The Impact of Weight on Quality of Life-Lite“ (IWQOL – Lite, Kolotkin et al. 2001). Results: A short-time group CBT has been effective in the weight reduction program, and at the same time we demonstrated the signifi cant improvement of complete HRQOL and all its monitored parameters.

Key words: quality of life, obesity, CBT.
